Background
Attorney van Colen graduate with honors from Suffolk University Law School, in Boston, Massachusetts. Following graduation, he worked as an Assistant District Attorney for Bristol County. As an assistant D.A., attorney van Colen handled a wide variety of criminal cases, gained invaluable courtroom experience, and built mutually respectful relationships with  fellow colleagues – lawyers and judges alike.

After five years as a D.A., attorney van Colen opened his own practice so that he could better serve his clients. In addition to opening his own practice, attorney van Colen performed legal services for attorney Kenneth S. Mello. Furthermore, attorney van Colen is  a bar advocate and accepts appointments from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for the District and Superior courts to represent indigent criminal defendants in all phases of litigation. In addition, attorney van Colen accepts appointments for the Mental Health Litigation Unit where he represents mentally handicapped and mentally disabled persons in Rodgers and Commitment hearings. Since 1997, attorney van Colen has proudly offered high quality legal advice and representation to the residents of Fall River, Massachusetts, including the metropolitan areas of New Bedford, Taunton, Attleboro, and Plymouth.
